Anjana Om Kashyap is an Indian journalist. She is the executive editor of Aaj Tak, a Hindi-language news channel. She is one of the most prominent television personalities in India and is known for her fierce and aggressive stance on various issues.
Anjana was born in Ranchi which was at that time a part of Bihar. Now Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand. She was born on 12 June 1975.
Anjana did her initial schooling at Loreto Convent School in Ranchi. She then attended the Delhi Public School in Ranchi. She completed her bachelor’s in Botony from Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. She had very strong leadership qualities and was also a very prolific debater since a very early age. So there should be no surprise that she was the Head Girl at both her schools and also the president of her college hostel.
Even though she had no interest in Science she appeared for the All India Pre Medical Test but could not clear it. She had also appeared for the UPSC exam many times but was unable to crack the exam.
After a few years, she enrolled for a postgraduate degree in Social Work at the Delhi School of Social Works, Delhi. It was the curriculum of the course which ignited a spark of public activism in her.
Since she had not much interest in Science and did not wish to pursue it further. On the insistence of her husband, Mangesh Kashyap she did a Diploma course in Journalism from Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi.
The name of Anjana’s father is Omprakash Tiwari. He was a doctor by profession. He was on a short-service commission with the Indian Army. He even served during the Bangladesh War of Independence.
Anjana is married to Mangesh Kashyap. Anjana and Mangesh met during their college days while they were studying at Delhi University. He is a 1995 batch IAS Officer. He has served as the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police. Since 2016 he is the Chief Vigilance Officer of South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
The couple has 2 children, a son, and a daughter.
Anjana’s very first job was that of a counselor at Daewoo Motors. But she left the job after around 1 year as did not seem to like her job.
In the early 2000s, she completed her Diploma course in Journalism. Then in 2004, she was inducted in Doordarshan where she started her journey as a TV show host with the show “Ankhon Dekhi” which was an investigative show. She was frequently allotted reporting duties as well. But she left Doordarshan within a year and joined Zee News.
The channel employed her in producing roles because they found her lacking in speaking finesse. But she had throughout wanted to be an anchor. In her later years at Zee News, she auditioned to be an anchor and finally successfully passed the auditions. She was then occasionally used as an anchor for special feature shows.
In 2007, she joined News 24. It was here for the first time that she was assigned the role of a mainstream anchor as the moderator of an evening debate show “Do Tuk”. This helped her gain a lot of popularity for her unbiased and neutral attitude towards everyone.
In 2012 she left this and shifted to Star News, but it shut down within a few months. She then followed her immediate ex-boss Supriya Prasad from News 24 to work at Aaj Tak, late in the year 2012. At Aaj Tak, she hosts debate shows like “Rajtilak” and “Dilli Ke Dil Mein Kya Hai”. Anjana has also been seen in films like Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai.
Ajana has won several awards in her career as a media personality. Some of them are the Best Reporter of the Year in National Television Awards, Best Anchor by ITA in 2014; Best Anchor by ENBA Awards, and Best Anchor by INWA Awards (both in 2015), and India Today Chairman’s Excellence Award. She has also been awarded Excellence in Journalism by Ph.D. Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
