Tom Selleck is an American actor and film producer. He has starred in a number of television films, mini-series and television series. Selleck is the spokesman for the National Rifle Association (NRA), an endorser in advertisements for the magazine, Nation Review and the co-founder of the Character Counts! Organization. He served in the California Army National Guard in its 160th Infantry Regiment from 1967 to 1973. Selleck, on 28 April 2000, received an honorary doctorate degree from Pepperdine University for his outstanding character and ethic.
Tom Selleck was born on 29 January 1945 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. His father, Robert Dean Selleck was an executive and real estate investor and his mother Martha Selleck was a homemaker. Both his parents had English ancestry though his father had a German ancestry as well. Selleck has three siblings, an older brother Robert, a younger brother Daniel and a sister Martha. During his childhood, his family moved to Sherman Oaks, California.

Tom Selleck married television actress Jacqueline Ray in 1971. At that time Selleck was relatively unknown in the entertainment industry. He adopted Ray’s son, Kevin from her previous marriage. Kevin took his last name and is known as Kevin Selleck. Kevin is an actor and former drummer of the rock band, Tonic. Selleck and Ray divorced in 1982.
